US to cut Ukraine weapons budget in 2026, says Pentagon chief

In 2026, the United States intends to reduce its budget for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine, stated US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the Associated Press reports.
"It is a reduction in this budget," Hegseth said during a hearing in the US House of Representatives, responding to questions from congressmen about future arms deliveries to Ukraine.
According to him, "this administration takes a very different view of that conflict (the war between Russia and Ukraine – ed.)."
"We believe that a negotiated peaceful settlement is in the best interest of both parties and our nation’s interests, especially with all the competing interests around the globe," Hegseth added.
US aid to Ukraine
Ukraine currently receives only those weapons from the US that were approved by the administration of former US President Joe Biden.
The current US President Donald Trump has not yet made any decisions regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed that the US provide Ukraine with new military aid using funds previously allocated by Congress last year.
At the beginning of last month, it became known that the US State Department had sent a notification to Congress regarding a license to export weapons to Ukraine worth at least $50 million.
