Satellite images confirmed that the nuclear facility in Fordow sustained damage following a US overnight strike on Iran, Sky News reports.

At present, there is no precise information on the extent of the damage to the Fordow nuclear site or whether the damage caused by American bombers penetrated deep inside.

Israel had been urging the US to intervene for some time, as the facility is built into the side of a mountain and required special bunker-buster bombs to target it effectively.

US strikes Iran on June 22

Israel launched an operation codenamed Rising Lion on June 13. Throughout the week, the Israeli Defense Forces carried out a series of strikes on military and nuclear sites in Iran.

Dozens of high-ranking Iranian commanders and nuclear physicists involved in the country's nuclear program were eliminated. Recently, Israel warned that the operation would not stop until its objectives are achieved.

There had long been speculation about possible US involvement in the operation. However, on the night of June 22, the United States launched airstrikes on three key Iranian nuclear sites - Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

President Donald Trump reported on the successful military operation.

At the same time, Trump promised that the US would continue striking if Tehran refuses to begin negotiations on a nuclear deal.
