Responding to a journalist's question about the consequences of Russia's massive bombing of Ukraine, Rubio calls them horrific and emphasizes that they cause suffering.
"It’s a war. That’s why we want the war to end. People are suffering. It’s the coldest time of year. It’s unimaginable, the suffering. That’s the problem with wars. That’s why wars are bad, and that’s why we worked so hard for over a year now to try to bring this one to an end," Rubio says.
The US Secretary of State also stresses that it is precisely to end the suffering of the civilian population that the White House, led by US President Donald Trump, has been working so hard for over a year.
Massive Russian strikes on Ukraine
In recent months, Russian troops have intensified their combined strikes on Ukraine's critical and energy infrastructure using hundreds of drones and missiles of various types.
On the night of February 12, Russian troops launched a combined strike with ballistic missiles and drones on several regions of Ukraine at once. In particular, Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro were attacked.
In addition, on the night of February 7, the Russians again attacked Ukraine, using about 400 drones and 40 missiles of various types. According to Zelenskyy, Russia's main targets were the power grid, power generation, and distribution substations. Due to the Russian attack on the energy sector, emergency power cuts were introduced in most regions of Ukraine.
