US State Department welcomes Russia’s readiness to talk with Ukraine

Statements by the Russian authorities about their readiness for peace talks with Ukraine are "a very good sign", according to US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
Bruce commented on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claim that Moscow is ready for bilateral negotiations with Ukraine.
"It is a very good sign," the State Department spokesperson said.
Bruce also emphasized that US President Donald Trump wants the war in Ukraine to end as soon as possible, as civilians continue to die in the fighting.
Russia’s readiness for peace talks
Recently, Russia again expressed its willingness to hold negotiations with Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Kyiv must legally remove the obstacles to talks.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an Easter ceasefire from 6:00 p.m. on April 19 until midnight on April 21, claiming he had ordered a halt to all combat operations.
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to the ceasefire, adding that Ukraine would respond symmetrically to any violations by Russia.
Despite the announcement, fighting on the front lines continued, although the number of attacks decreased.
Meanwhile, the night in Ukraine passed peacefully, with no air raid alerts reported in any region.
Zelenskyy also proposed a broader 30-day ceasefire, under which both sides would refrain from striking civilian targets. Putin responded by saying the proposal required further consideration.
Later, the Kremlin said that Putin seeks bilateral talks with Ukraine focused on halting attacks on civilian infrastructure for at least 30 days.
