US President Donald Trump does not rule out the possibility of purchasing American weapons for Ukraine using the proceeds from frozen Russian assets. This topic is under discussion, states Keith Kellogg, the special envoy of US President Donald Trump on Ukraine and Russia, in an interview with Fox News.

In response to a question about the possibility of Ukraine using Russian assets to purchase American weapons, Kellogg said "That's a discussion piece."

"We've always talked about this repeatedly... of using Russian frozen assets to buy US arms… And this will be discussed with President (Trump – ed.)," he noted.

However, in his opinion, "this is not the piece that is going to solve this."

Russian frozen assets

Ukraine has already begun receiving funds under the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine (ERA) program. This mechanism involves receiving $50 billion from G7 countries, which will later be repaid through revenues generated from the use of frozen Russian assets.

Additionally, at the end of January 2024, EU ambassadors reached an agreement on using the profits from frozen Russian assets to assist Ukraine.

Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed using the profits from Russian assets for weapons for Ukraine.

In December, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that one billion euros from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets would be directed towards the production of Ukrainian weapons.
