EU Commission head suggests using profits from Russian assets for arms to Ukraine
The European Union should consider using the profits from frozen Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. In particular, for the purchase of military equipment, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
She makes the statement at a meeting in the European Parliament in Strasbourg today, February 28.

Ursula von der Leyen adds that there can be no stronger symbol and no greater use for this money than to make Ukraine and the whole of Europe a safer place to live.
Russian assets confiscation
Recently, EU ambassadors reached an agreement to use the proceeds of frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine. It was also reported that the diplomats had authorized the transfer of income from Russian assets to a separate account.
At the end of 2023, the Western press reported that the United States proposed to the G7 countries to confiscate $300 billion in frozen Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. The initiative was supposed to be approved by February 24, 2024.
According to the Financial Times, Belgium proposed a plan to the G7 to unblock Russian assets in favor of Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba expressed confidence that the EU would decide on Russian assets this year.
