US Сongresswoman invites Russian Duma members to Washington

Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has invited four members of Russia's State Duma to Washington for a meeting with members of Congress, reportedly regarding peace talks, according to the Congresswoman's X post.
"I have received authorization from the State Department for four members from the Russian Duma to come meet with members of Congress regarding peace talks, etc., and have extended a formal invitation to those members to meet with us here in Washington, D.C., later this month," Anna Paulina Luna stated.
She also thanked US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the State Department for help on the invitation, adding that discussions on peace processes should be led by reasonable persons.

In 2023, Luna co-authored the "Ukraine Fatigue Resolution," which called for ending U.S. assistance to Ukraine. She later also voted against aid packages for Ukraine.
In October last year, Luna met with Kirill Dmitriev, a special envoy of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. In December, the Congresswoman also submitted a bill calling for the US to withdraw from NATO.
Background
On January 7, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that representatives of Ukraine and the US would discuss the hardest issues in Paris, including territories and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
On January 6, Ukraine, the US, and the Coalition of the Willing countries met in Paris. The parties reaffirmed their unity on achieving a lasting peace and agreed to continue supporting Kyiv.
Ukraine, France, and the UK also signed a declaration establishing a joint coordination group. According to French President Emmanuel Macron, the new mechanism will allow for the full integration of the involved armed forces and ensure coordinated action at the operational level.
In addition, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced plans to establish "military hubs" in Ukraine after confirming the deployment of British troops to Ukrainian territory to support a future ceasefire.
