US soldier sold secret information on HIMARS and hypersonic equipment to foreign national
US Army sergeant and intelligence analyst Korbein Schultz pleaded guilty to selling classified information to a foreigner, including details on HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, according to the Associated Press.
The suspect, who was detained in March of this year, pleaded guilty yesterday, August 13, in a federal court in Nashville. He had previously refused to admit his guilt.
According to the prosecution, Schultz received a total of $42,000 for the classified information. The buyer was a foreigner from Hong Kong.
According to the investigation, the defendant in the case entered into a conspiracy with the foreigner in June 2022. The information Schultz gave included data on missiles, rocket and artillery systems, including HIMARS; hypersonic equipment; anti-drone tactics; US military satellites; and studies on military exercises and operations in large countries such as China.
From the very beginning, Schultz was asked to provide documents detailing the lessons that could be learned from Russia's war with Ukraine and how these lessons could be used by the United States to help Taiwan in the event of an attack. For this information, he received $200, after which the parties agreed on “long-term partnership.”
What preceded it
