In the US Senate on Wednesday, March 5, five resolutions supporting Ukraine were put to a vote. They were blocked by Republicans, according to Voice of America.

They noted that five senators each introduced their version of a resolution in support of Ukraine. The documents called for the condemnation of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's brutal invasion of Ukraine and emphasized the continued support of the United States for Ukraine.

The resolutions were introduced by Democratic senators: Michael Bennet, Chris Van Hollen, Dick Durbin, Richard Blumenthal, and Peter Welch, as well as independent senator Bernie Sanders.

Senate Democratic minority leader Chuck Schumer supported these resolutions, stating that such documents affirm bipartisan principles that should be supported by both Democrats and Republicans.

However, Republican Senator Jim Risch, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, opposed the resolution. He remarked that while he agreed with the content of the resolutions, he believed it would have absolutely zero effect and would not impact Putin.

A few weeks ago, it was reported that members of the US House of Representatives presented a resolution in support of Ukraine.

The document proposed to reaffirm strong support for Ukraine and condemn the Kremlin leader, Vladimir Putin.
