Draft resolution in support of Ukraine submitted to US Congress – Ukrainian Ambassador

A resolution in support of Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion has been submitted to the US House of Representatives. The initiative was introduced by members of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, according to Ukraine’s Ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova.
She stated that members of the House of Representatives introduced a bipartisan resolution titled Honoring the Heroic Victims of the Ukrainian People Three Years After Russian President Vladimir Putin's Illegal and Unprovoked War Against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and Recognizing the Horrific Cost of Russia’s Crimes Against Humanity During Its Aggression.
The preamble of the document emphasizes that Russia's invasion of Ukraine began in 2014. At the same time, the Russian President launched a full-scale war to seize the entire territory of Ukraine.
The preamble also mentions more than 100,000 war crimes committed by Russians against Ukraine, the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia, and the killing of Ukrainian civilians by the occupiers.
In the main part of the resolution, members of Congress propose, in particular:
- to reaffirm commitment to the Ukrainian people and express strong support for Ukraine;
- to condemn Russian President Vladimir Putin;
- to emphasize the necessity of restoring Ukraine’s control over its temporarily occupied territories;
- to reaffirm the importance of the Budapest Memorandum and call on Russia to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Change of power in the US
Donald Trump officially became the president of the United States in January. His position on supporting Ukraine sharply differs from that of Joe Biden.
In particular, Trump has made a number of controversial statements about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, calling the Ukrainian leader a "dictator without elections."
Additionally, the Trump administration has not yet provided new military aid to Ukraine.
