Next week, a bill will be introduced in the US Congress recognizing Salome Zourabichvili as the sole legitimate president of Georgia. This pertains to the period until fair re-elections are held in the country, states Republican Joe Wilson on social media platform X, who chairs the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee in the House of Representatives.

He also noted that the bill includes a ban on the US recognizing the illegal regime in Georgia.

"Next week, I will introduce the Georgian Nightmare Non-Recognition Act, which will prohibit US recognition of the illegal dictatorial regime in Georgia and recognize Salome Zourabichvili as the only legitimate leader in Georgia until such a time as free and fair elections are held," Wilson wrote.

In late October, Georgia held parliamentary elections, in which the pro-Russian party Georgian Dream emerged victorious. The election process was contentious, as widespread falsifications were reported. Furthermore, polls indicated significant support for opposition forces.

Against this backdrop, as well as the announcement of the suspension of negotiations on European integration, protests have erupted in the country. In December, the Electoral College of Georgia elected a new president – former footballer Mikheil Kavelashvili.

Today, December 29, the inauguration is scheduled to take place. However, Zourabichvili stated yesterday that she remains in the presidential palace. A week ago, she also announced the creation of a council to prepare for new parliamentary elections.
