US President Donald Trump stated that he has not set any deadlines for concluding a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, according to a White House broadcast.
During a press briefing, Trump clarified that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will travel to Moscow next week. In Russia, he will discuss the US peace plan with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.
For this reason, journalists asked whether this means that the previous deadline for the agreement -Thanksgiving, November 27 - is no longer relevant. They also inquired whether there is a new deadline.
"See what happens. They set up a date, and the date is going to be sometime in the very near future. I don't have a deadline. You know what the deadline for me is? When it's over.. And I think everybody's tired of fighting at this moment. They're losing too many people," responded Trump.
The US leader also commented on the points of the peace agreement. He said that the 28-point plan was not really a plan, but a concept. Apparently, the number of points has been reduced.
"And from there, they've taken each one of the 28 points, and then you got down to 22 points," said the president.
US peace deal
Recently, Western media published a new US peace plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. It contained 28 points, but due to its terms, it was considered favorable to Russia.
As a result, on November 23, delegations from the US, Ukraine, and Europe held consultations in Geneva. The parties revised the document to make it more favorable for Kyiv.
According to the Financial Times, the plan was reduced from 28 to 19 points. The agency also reported that Ukraine supposedly agreed to reduce its army to 800,000 troops.
Following the Geneva talks, the US and Ukraine issued a joint statement, saying that the final details of the plan would be agreed upon during a meeting between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Yesterday, the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, announced that Zelenskyy is ready to meet as soon as possible, and such a meeting could take place on November 27.
However, work on the document appears to be ongoing, as Trump said yesterday that Steve Witkoff will meet with Putin, and US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll will visit Kyiv. These visits are aimed at coordinating the plan between the US, Ukraine, and Russia.
