The United States of America is against inviting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the NATO summit in The Hague, which is scheduled for June 24, according to ANSA.

As of now, invitations to the summit have only been sent to four Asian partners:

  • Japan;

  • South Korea;

  • Australia;

  • New Zealand.

“Almost all allies expressed surprise to Washington regarding this choice,” one of ANSA’s sources said.

This issue may also be raised during an informal meeting of the heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFA), which will take place today, May 14, in the evening in Antalya. At the same time, no decisions are expected.

During the NATO summit, as ANSA writes, a “very concise” agenda is possible, unlike previous meetings, in order to avoid tension with the head of the White House, Donald Trump.

NATO’s support for Ukraine

After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, NATO significantly increased its support for Ukraine, although Ukraine itself is not a member of the Alliance. The assistance includes the supply of weapons, ammunition, air defense systems, drones, intelligence information, as well as the training of Ukrainian military personnel on the territory of NATO member countries. In addition, Alliance countries provide financial, humanitarian, and logistical support.

NATO also plays a key role in coordinating assistance among partner states and is strengthening its presence on the eastern flank to deter further Russian aggression.

Recently, Trump stated that Crimea would be recognized as Russian within the framework of a peace agreement between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. In particular, he commented on Ukraine’s desire to join NATO. He linked the country’s accession process to the war.
