Since late August, US forces in the Middle East have killed 163 ISIS militants and captured 33 during dozens of operations in Iraq and Syria, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

More than 95 operations named Defeat ISIS have been conducted since August 29, some of which involved strikes in Syria. As a result, 163 terrorists have been killed and 33 captured, including over 30 senior and mid-level ISIS leaders.

"These successful operations resulted in the seizure of significant enemy material that could aid in future disruptions. Sustained pressure on ISIS leaders has constrained their ability to operate and to plan attacks," the statement said.

Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, commander of US Central Command, emphasized that, together with coalition partners and Iraqi forces, "we will continue to aggressively pursue these terrorists and disrupt their capability to conduct operations against US interests, as well as those of our allies and partners."

US missions in Iraq and Syria

Despite the defeat of ISIS in 2019, "sleeper cells" still carry out attacks in Iraq and Syria. In recent years, the number of such assaults has begun to rise.

US military personnel regularly conduct strikes and raids with security forces in Iraq and Syria, aiming to prevent the resurgence of the terrorist group.

About 900 US troops are stationed in Syria, while approximately 2,500 are in Iraq.

One of the most notable attacks occurred in late October when US forces targeted camps in the Syrian desert and several top leaders of the group, resulting in the elimination of 35 militants.

On October 11, US aircraft struck ISIS camps in Syria.

At the end of August, US military and Iraqi security forces conducted a raid in eastern Iraq that resulted in the deaths of 15 ISIS terrorists.
