US forces and Iraqi troops destroy 15 ISIS militants in western Iraq - CENTCOM
Early on Thursday, August 29, US and Iraqi security forces conducted a raid in western Iraq. The operation resulted in the deaths of 15 ISIS militants, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
"The ISIS element was armed with numerous weapons, grenades, and explosive “suicide” belts," the statement reads.
CENTCOM noted that the operation aimed to target ISIS leaders to disrupt and weaken their ability to plan, organize, and execute attacks against Iraqi civilians, as well as US citizens, allies, and partners across the region and beyond.
The command also added that there were no reports of civilian casualties following the raid. Meanwhile, Iraqi security forces are continuing to secure the raid locations.
"ISIS remains a threat to the region, our allies, as well as our homeland," CENTCOM emphasized.
The statement concludes by noting that US Central Command, along with coalition and Iraqi partners, will continue to aggressively pursue these terrorists.
