The US has eliminated the leader of an Iranian unit who was planning an assassination attempt on President Donald Trump. The operation took place on Tuesday, March 3, stated US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

Details of the special operation

According to the Pentagon chief, US forces were able to track and eliminate the organizer of the alleged assassination plot.

Hegseth emphasized that although Iran had attempted to target Donald Trump, the President "got the last laugh." At the same time, the Secretary noted that the elimination of this individual was not the primary objective of the larger US military operation against Iran.

"While that was not the focus of the effort by any stretch of the imagination - in fact, never raised by the President or anybody else - I ensured, and others ensured, that those who were responsible for that were eventually part of the target list," Hegseth said.

The name of the eliminated unit leader has not yet been disclosed.

Situation around the US-Iran conflict

In recent days, tensions between Washington and Tehran have escalated into active operations. Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth accused Iran of starting a war against the US, saying it began 47 years ago.

The Pentagon also stated that it intends to establish full control over strategic sites to neutralize threats from Iran.

Alongside military operations, reports have emerged that the CIA may be preparing an internal uprising in Iran to change the country’s political leadership.

Experts note that a direct war with Iran carries serious risks for global stability. RBC-Ukraine has previously outlined three potential scenarios and how this conflict could trigger a large-scale global crisis.
