According to the TV channel's sources, the administration of US President Donald Trump is consulting with the Iranian opposition and Kurdish leaders on the possibility of providing them with military assistance.
It is expected that Kurdish forces in Iran may soon join ground operations in the west of the country. One US official noted that there is currently a favorable opportunity for such actions.
According to sources, Washington's plan is for Kurdish forces to engage in confrontation with Iranian security forces.
This is believed to allow residents of large cities to stage protests without harsh repression, similar to the events of January. Another interlocutor added that Kurdish activity could destabilize the situation in the region and deplete Iran's military potential.
Kurds
The Kurds are a people who live mainly in the mountains of the Kurdistan region in southeastern Türkiye, western Iran, northern Iraq, and northeastern Syria.
In Iran, the Kurds live in the west and north of the country. The socio-political and economic dissatisfaction of the Iranian Kurds, restrictions on their national-state status, and other reasons have given rise to claims against the authorities.
US and Israeli strikes on Iran
On February 28, Israel and the US launched a series of strikes on Iran. Donald Trump said in his address that the US had launched a military campaign to eliminate threats from the current regime, and that the main goal of the operation was to protect the American people and allies.
According to media reports, Trump ordered a large-scale air strike on Iran after prolonged lobbying by Israel and Saudi Arabia. The strikes resulted in the elimination of Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
At least four members of Khamenei's family and many high-ranking officials were also killed in a series of missile strikes by the US and Israel.
