The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on a company and three individuals for illegally transferring funds to North Korea, circumventing existing restrictions, according to an official statement.

The sanctions took effect on Thursday, July 24. They target the North Korean company Korea Sobaeksu Trading Company and three of its employees — Kim Se Un, Jo Kyong Hun, and Myong Chol Min — who were involved in evading U.S. and UN sanctions.

According to the US Treasury, the individuals carried out covert financial operations on behalf of the North Korean government, including using fraudulent schemes involving IT specialists.

"The DPRK relies on front companies like Korea Sobaesku Trading Company and key facilitators to procure materials and generate revenue for the regime’s illegal nuclear and ballistic missile programs," emphasized Treasury Department spokesperson Bradley Smith.

On the same day, the US Department of Justice charged seven North Korean nationals with sanctions evasion, and the State Department announced rewards ranging from $500,000 to $7 million for information leading to their capture.

In December 2024, the US imposed sanctions on several North Korean generals, officials, and banks due to the deployment of tens of thousands of North Korean troops to the war in Ukraine.

Recently, it was revealed that thousands of North Korean hackers impersonated Americans, carried out cyberattacks, and financed the North Korean military.
