US expects Ukraine’s Parliament to ratify minerals deal within a week – Sky News

The United States expects that Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (Parliament - ed.) could approve the minerals deal in the coming days, Sky News reports.
An unnamed representative of Donald Trump's administration told the outlet that the Verkhovna Rada could ratify the document within a week.
He noted that the deal includes three separate documents signed between Ukraine and the United States. Under the agreement, "50% of the royalties will come from new natural resource projects in Ukraine and not just rare earths".
Since the agreement is classified as an international treaty, it requires parliamentary ratification to take effect.
Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak previously suggested that the ratification could take place during a parliamentary session scheduled for May 13-15. After that, the investment fund will start operating.
Ukraine and the US sign minerals deal
Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Yuliia Svyrydenko, announced overnight that Kyiv had signed the minerals deal with the United States.
The deal provides for the creation of an investment fund that will receive 50% of budget revenues generated from royalty payments, the sale of exploration and extraction licenses, and other forms of resource use.
