Fifty citizens were returned to Ukraine after being deported by the United States via transit through Poland, according to State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andrii Demchenko.
"Today, 50 citizens were returned from the United States through the Shehyni checkpoint on the border with Poland. They were documented with the appropriate papers confirming their Ukrainian citizenship or documents for their return," Demchenko said.
According to him, the US informed the Ukrainian side in advance about the intention to deport this group of individuals who do not hold US citizenship but are originally from Ukraine.
"Our border guards ensured proper processing of these individuals in accordance with current legislation. Ukraine accepts its citizens in any case," he emphasized.
Currently, the State Border Guard Service and other competent authorities are investigating the specific violations or circumstances that led to the US decision to deport them.
Western media previously reported that the US intends to deport about 80 Ukrainians. These are citizens who violated the law.
At that time, Ukraine’s ambassador to the US, Olha Stefanishyna, said that the diplomatic mission is aware of approximately 80 Ukrainian citizens for whom the American side has already made final decisions on deportation due to violations of US law.
She added that American authorities are now working out the logistical details of these deportations, particularly given the lack of direct flights between the US and Ukraine.
