For the first time since the war began, the USA refuses to be a co-sponsor of the UN resolution project dedicated to the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The resolution supports the territorial integrity of the country and condemns Russian aggression, according to Reuters.

"This comes amid a widening rift between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump. Trump is trying to rapidly end the war in Ukraine and sent a team to hold talks with Russia this week in Saudi Arabia without the involvement of Kyiv," the source notes.

UN General Assembly draft resolution, which Reuters has reviewed, condemns Russian aggression and reaffirms commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. It has been supported by over 50 countries.

"In previous years, the United States has consistently co-sponsored such resolutions in support of a just peace in Ukraine," Reuters states.

According to the agency's source, it was unclear when the deadline for supporting the resolution draft would expire, and Washington could still change its stance.

It is clarified that the vote in the UN, which is considered an important signal of global support for Ukraine, in a context where Donald Trump's administration appears to be shifting towards Russia in the war, could still take place without US support. However, it is less likely to gain broad backing in the General Assembly.

"For now, the situation is they (US - ed.) won't sign it," a Reuters diplomatic source stated.

Trump`s attacks on Zelenskyy

After talks between American and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia, the US president claimed that Zelenskyy's approval rating was allegedly only 4% and expressed dissatisfaction that Ukraine was not holding elections during the war. He also referred to Zelensky as a "dictator without elections."

Furthermore, the US president stated that Russia has "the cards" in negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine, as Moscow has "taken a lot of territory."
