US Court decides to deliver verdict in one of Trump's cases after election
US Judge Juan M. Merchan has agreed to postpone the sentencing in the case of former US President Donald Trump. This will happen after the US presidential election, according to the Associated Press.
The judge decided to postpone Trump's sentencing until November 26, which will be three weeks after the last votes in the presidential election are cast.
According to Merchan, he made this decision “to avoid any appearance — however unwarranted — that the proceeding has been affected by or seeks to affect the approaching presidential election in which the Defendant is a candidate.”
“The Court is a fair, impartial, and apolitical institution,” he added.
The US presidential election will take place on November 5.
What preceded it
In May, a US court found Donald Trump guilty in the case of a porn actress' silence.
As law enforcement officers found out, the former US President's lawyer paid Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about her sexual encounter with Trump.
During the trial, the jury found Trump guilty on all 34 counts. Theoretically, he could face between 4 and 136 years in prison, but the likelihood of this is very low.
