US considers Russia's counteroffensive actions in Kursk region to be 'minor'
The US Department of Defense has confirmed reports of Russian attempts to conduct counteroffensive operations in the Kursk region. The Pentagon has characterized the scale of these actions as minor, according to Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder
"We have seen Russian units beginning to try to conduct some type of counteroffensive in the Kursk region," said Pentagon spokesperson General Patrick Ryder.
He noted that these actions are considered minor. However, the Pentagon is monitoring the situation closely, Ryder added.
According to RBC-Ukraine, Vladimir Putin has reportedly instructed military and political leaders to secure the Kursk region by October 1. However, this must be achieved without redeploying forces from key areas in Ukraine.
On Tuesday, September 10, Russian forces began conducting counterattacks in the Kursk region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russian counteroffensive actions in the Kursk region are occurring according to Ukrainian plans.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes that it remains unclear whether the Russians have sufficient forces to drive the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the Kursk region or to defend against new Ukrainian counterattacks.
