The visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ukraine is very important, especially at a time when Russia is trying to destabilize the global order, stated US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma.

According to him, it is now very important to protect and preserve this international order.

Verma said that the international community must stand against such attacks and invasions, attacks on civilians, and the killing of children in hospitals.

Verma also noted that he understands India's long-standing relationship with Russia and certain obligations of India. However, he is grateful for Modi's position, which he expressed by saying that now is not the time for war, but for peace.

Modi's visit to Kyiv

Recently, it became known that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Ukraine on the eve of Independence Day, August 23. It is worth noting that this is the first visit to Ukraine by an Indian Prime Minister in the history of bilateral relations.

During his visit, Modi is scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and hold talks on bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The day before, Bloomberg cited sources as saying that Modi had ruled out playing a mediator's role in ending Russia's war in Ukraine. However, the country did agree to relay messages between Zelenskyy and Putin.

However, Reuters writes that the Indian Prime Minister will “share perspectives” on a peaceful resolution of the war in Kyiv.
