Modi says he will 'share perspectives' on ending Russia-Ukraine war during Kyiv trip
During his visit to Kyiv, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to discuss, among other issues, the possibility of a peaceful resolution to the ongoing large-scale war between Russia and Ukraine, citing Reuters.
Before his departure to Poland, and then to Ukraine, the Indian Prime Minister stated on Wednesday that during his visit to Kyiv, he intends to "share perspectives" on peacefully resolving the conflict.
The head of the Indian government also mentioned that he would seek to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries during his time in the Ukrainian capital.
Speaking on peace initiatives, Modi said, "As a friend and partner, we hope for an early return of peace and stability in the region."
Modi's visit to Ukraine
Earlier reports indicated that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Ukraine on August 23, where he is scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In July, media reports began to surface suggesting that such a visit was being planned. These rumors started spreading a few weeks after the Indian Prime Minister visited Moscow for a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Notably, this visit occurred on the same day that the Russian army launched an attack on the children's hospital Okhmatdyt in Kyiv.
Additionally, Bloomberg previously reported that India had agreed to transmit messages between Zelenskyy and Putin. However, Modi ruled out the possibility of his country mediating in the matter of ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The Office of the President of Ukraine confirmed Modi's upcoming visit this Friday, August 23, and outlined the topics of discussion between him and Zelenskyy.
