What preceded
Rumors about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit emerged in July. These rumors began spreading a few weeks after the head of the Indian government visited Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the day Russian forces struck the Okhmatdyt children's hospital.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that such a meeting was a "devastating blow to peace efforts."
At the end of July, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar mentioned that India needs to be more active in matters concerning the Russia-Ukraine war. The official explained that not many countries in the world can engage in dialogue with both Russia and Ukraine.
As reported by Bloomberg on August 19, India has agreed to relay messages between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Kremlin head Vladimir Putin.
However, journalists clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ruled out his country's mediation in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
