US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has said that NATO has "limited ability to reverse the battlefield disadvantage". He believes Kyiv will have to make concessions, the New York Post reports.
According to the outlet, citing a source, Driscoll’s delivery of the initial peace plan to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was accompanied by a "stern message."
"Look, this is the reality of the situation. Ukraine is at a disadvantage right now. The United States and NATO have a limited ability to reverse the battlefield disadvantage you have, and the current course is not sustainable. And so, there’s going to have to be tough concessions," a source cited the US Army Secretary as saying.
Last week, Driscoll warned Ukrainian officials in Kyiv about the difficult battlefield situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He said Ukrainian troops are facing an inevitable defeat by Russian forces.
The US Army Secretary claimed that Russia is capable of fighting indefinitely. He added that the situation for Ukraine will only worsen in the future, so it is better for Kyiv to reach a peace agreement now.
US peace plan
About a week ago, Western media reported that the United States had developed a new peace plan to end the war in Ukraine.
Kyiv was presented with a document consisting of 28 points, some of which were rather painful for Ukraine. As a result, a meeting between US, Ukrainian, and EU delegations took place in Geneva on November 23 to revise the plan.
The Financial Times reported that the 28-point plan had been reduced to 19, although US President Donald Trump hinted that it actually contains 22 points.
After the Geneva meeting, the US and Ukraine announced the creation of a framework document. The final version is expected to be approved during a meeting between the two countries' leaders.
Notably, the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, believes that the meeting between the Ukrainian President and his American counterpart could take place as soon as November 27.
