US Ambassador to Ukraine: Russia strikes Sumy with cluster munitions, echoing Kryvyi Rih attack

US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink stated that Russia launched a ballistic missile strike on Sumy, using cluster munitions once again. This significantly increased the scale of destruction and damage to civilians.
"Today, Palm Sunday, Russia launched ballistic missiles on Sumy - killing 32 Ukrainian civilians & injuring 99 (the number of casualties and injuries has since increased - ed.)," the Ambassador emphasized.
She noted that, as in Kryvyi Rih, the Russians used cluster munitions this time as well, which amplified the extent of the destruction and harm to the civilian population.
"Our prayers are with the people of Sumy," Brink added.
Scandal over Brink’s statements
Last week, Russia launched a ballistic missile strike on the city of Kryvyi Rih. As a result of the strike, dozens of people were killed, including nine children.
At that time, Brink responded to the attack but did not mention that the city was hit by a Russian ballistic missile in her post.
Her statement was met with a response from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who said he was "surprisingly disappointed" by such a weak reaction from the US Embassy.

Notably, a few days later, Ambassador Brink reacted again to the tragedy in Kryvyi Rih. This time, she did acknowledge Russia's involvement in the strike on the city.
It is also worth noting that recent reports suggest that Bridget Brink is resigning as the US Ambassador to Ukraine.
Missile strike on Sumy
Today, on April 13, Russia launched a double missile strike on the center of Sumy, using two ballistic missiles.
The attack occurred on Palm Sunday, when the city’s streets were filled with people.
As Brink pointed out, the enemy's tactics during today's shelling were indeed similar to the attack in Kryvyi Rih. Local authorities reported that Russia once again launched a missile with cluster munitions, and the enemy's missile exploded over the city.
