US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink is reportedly planning to leave her post early. One of the reasons is personal, CBS News reports.

Sources told the outlet that while Brink has not yet submitted formal resignation paperwork, she has made "farewell calls" to colleagues.

Neither Brink nor the US State Department has responded to CBS News’ request for comment regarding the rumors.

However, one unnamed senior US official told the outlet that her resignation is an "unusual mix of personal and policy concerns," including recent dismissals at the US Agency for International Development (USAID). One factor is that Brink has been working in Kyiv without her family.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reportedly wanted Brink to remain in her post and rejected her initial resignation request, which she submitted in January as part of the routine personnel rotation between administrations.

Brink’s tepid response to Kryvyi Rih strike

Last week, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile with a cluster warhead that exploded mid-air near a playground in Kryvyi Rih. Nine children died as a result of this attack, and children were also among the injured.

US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, reacting to this tragedy on social network X, did not even mention Russia's involvement in the attack. She described the attack only as another reason why the war must end.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later said Brink’s response was “surprisingly disappointing", calling it weak.

The following day, Brink issued a second statement, this time explicitly blaming Russia for the attack on Kryvyi Rih.
