US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker is visiting Ukraine. He is leading a delegation from the North Atlantic Alliance, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal on Telegram.

The Defense Minister said that the main topic of the meeting with ambassadors from partner countries at NATO was Ukraine’s needs for the upcoming winter. At the same time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense provided detailed briefings for the partners.

The discussions also focused on innovations and protecting Ukrainian airspace from Russian attacks.

According to Shmyhal, the ambassadors’ attention was drawn to a layered air defense system, including missiles for air defense, interceptor drones, and radar systems.

The minister noted that Ukraine not only needs assistance but is also ready to share its experience in building air defense with allied countries.

Shmyhal added that he thanked the NATO partner country ambassadors for supporting Ukraine from the first days of the full-scale war, as well as for participating in the PURL initiative, through which American weapons are purchased for Ukrainian soldiers.

This is Whitaker’s first visit to Ukraine.

Bessent’s visit

To date, the highest-ranking official from US President Donald Trump’s administration to visit Ukraine since the start of his second term is Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

He came to Ukraine to present a minerals deal.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Bessent wanted Ukraine to sign the agreement immediately, but this did not happen so quickly.
