UAVs have reportedly reached the Russian military unit of the space intelligence Zvezda, located in Stavropol Krai, Andriy Kovalenko, Head of Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation reports.

Zvezda military unit

Zvezda is one of the main facilities of Russia's space electronic reconnaissance system. It was established in the early 1970s under the codename Zvezda (Star) and is designed for the global interception of:

  • signals from satellites,
  • intercontinental communications,
  • and communications between foreign military facilities.

"The Zvezda facility is essentially a center for space intelligence analysis, subordinated to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff," Kovalenko stated.

Today, Zvezda specializes in electronic surveillance of orbital signals and foreign satellite communication systems. It forms part of the strategic Russian intelligence architecture, used not only for battlefield monitoring but also for preparing material for information and psychological operations - including cyberespionage efforts.

Drone attacks deep inside Russia

Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Russia has frequently experienced explosions, fires, and UAV strikes - particularly at military, energy, and transportation infrastructure. While many occur near the border, strikes are increasingly being recorded deep within Russian territory.

These attacks serve several purposes:

  • Disrupt fuel, weapons, and ammunition supply lines to the front;
  • Lower morale within Russia;
  • Demonstrate that the Russian heartland is not invulnerable.

As previously reported, on the night of April 30, drones from Ukraine's Security Service targeted the Murom Instrument-Building Plant in Russia's Vladimir region.
