United States delivered batch of demining equipment to Ukraine
The United States has delivered a new batch of vehicles and specialized equipment to Ukraine for demining the liberated regions of the country, according to the Twitter account of the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink.
"Over one-third of Ukraine is mined as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion," according to a statement from the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine.
It is noted that the transfer of demining equipment worth over $1 million to the State Special Transport Service will allow Ukraine to deploy more demining teams to expedite the recovery of the liberated regions.
Demining in Ukraine
Due to the Russian invasion and active hostilities, Ukraine is contaminated with explosive hazards. Some analysts consider Ukraine the most heavily mined country in the world.
Lithuania has led a coalition for demining in Ukraine, and the first meeting of partners has already taken place.
On February 7, the European Union handed over a demining system, the DOK-ING MV-10, to Ukraine. It was received by the State Special Transport Service of Ukraine. The new system is part of the EU's 25 million euro humanitarian demining support package for Ukraine, announced at the EU-Ukraine summit in February 2023.
