Ukrainian athlete Kateryna Sadurska won the gold medal at the World Freediving Championship. The competition took place in Mitikas, Greece, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine reports.

Gold in her signature discipline

Sadurska competed in her strongest discipline, "constant weight without fins." The Ukrainian dove to a depth of 76 meters, securing first place in the tournament.

This is the seventh gold medal for the Kharkiv native at world championships.

Sadurska's world record

It is worth noting that Sadurska holds the world record in this discipline. Last year, at the World Championship in Dominica, she dove to 84 meters, breaking her own previous record. Overall, the Ukrainian has set new world records seven times.

At the current World Championship, Sadurska could have won bronze in the monofin dive.

However, she fell just short of the podium. Instead, another Ukrainian, Nataliia Zharkova, won gold, also setting a new national record.

What's next

The World Freediving Championships will continue in Greece until September 17. The Ukrainian team still has a chance to add more medals to their tally.
