UN Secretary-General expresses concern over US strikes on Houthis, which resulted in casualties

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres is deeply concerned about the US airstrikes in Yemen, which have caused dozens of casualties, states the UN Secretary-General's spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric.
"The Secretary-General is gravely concerned about the airstrikes conducted by the United States over the course of 17 and 18 April in and around Yemen’s port of Ra’s Isa, which reportedly resulted in scores of civilian casualties, including five humanitarian workers injured," said Dujarric.
Additionally, there is concern over reports of significant damage to port infrastructure and potential oil spills in the Red Sea waters.
The UN Secretary-General is also concerned about the ongoing missile and drone strikes by the Houthis on Israel and the Red Sea area. Guterres strongly demands an immediate cessation of these attacks and emphasizes the need for full compliance with Security Council Resolution 2768 (2025), which pertains to attacks on commercial and merchant ships.
He reminded everyone of the importance of adhering to international law, including international humanitarian law, and specifically called for the protection and respect of civilian populations and civilian infrastructure.
"The Secretary-General remains deeply troubled about the risk of further escalation in the region and continues to urge all to exercise utmost restraint. The Secretary-General also reiterates his call for the immediate and unconditional release of all the UN and other personnel arbitrarily detained by the Houthis," summarized Guterres' spokesperson.
On the night of April 18, it was reported that US forces attacked the Ras Isa fuel port in Yemen. The goal was to cut off fuel sources for the militants supported by Iran.
