UN Secretary-General and President of UN General Assembly commented on missile strike on Ukraine
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned Russia's massive missile attack on Ukrainian cities, including the strike on Kyiv's Okhmatdyt children's hospital, according to a statement from Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General.
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned the rocket attacks by the Russian Federation on residential buildings and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine, including in the cities of Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro, and Pokrovsk. The attacks have resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians, including children, and injured more than 150 people.
The Secretary-General emphasized that the missile strikes on the National Specialized Children's Hospital Okhmatdyt in Kyiv, the largest pediatric facility in Ukraine, and another medical facility in the Dnipro district of the capital, are particularly shocking.
"Directing attacks against civilians and civilian objects is prohibited by international humanitarian law, and any such attacks are unacceptable and must end immediately. The Secretary-General extends his deepest condolences to the families of all the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured," the statement reads.
The President of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, also condemned the missile strikes on Ukraine.
On his social media account, X, he expressed his strongest condemnation of the devastating Russian attack on the Okhmatdyt hospital in Kyiv.
"I am deeply saddened by this tragedy. My heart goes out to the victims and their families," Francis wrote.
The President of the UN General Assembly noted that he recently visited Ukraine, where he witnessed the resilience and courage of the Ukrainian people in the face of Russian aggression.
"This unconscionable attack on civilians, especially children, is a grave violation of international law and the principles of the UN Charter. All civilians must be protected," he added.
