Ukrainians who have been prevented from leaving a Georgian border checkpoint after being deported from Russia have ended their hunger strike. Work is underway to return them to their homeland, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reports.

As noted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the night of August 6–7, a representative of the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia arrived at the Dariali checkpoint and met with the Ukrainians stranded there.

On August 7, Ukrainian citizens were provided with the necessary medical assistance. An agreement was reached with the Georgian side to ensure further medical care.

"On August 8, a representative of the deported citizens of Ukraine, with whom our diplomats maintain constant communication, informed the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia about the end of the hunger strike of our compatriots, which had been announced on August 5," the ministry added.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the embassies of Ukraine in Georgia and Moldova, as well as in cooperation with international humanitarian organizations, is working on returning the stranded citizens to their homeland.

In particular, active work is underway with the authorities of Georgia and Moldova to unblock the transit route and resolve all logistical obstacles from the Dariali checkpoint over the past month.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called on Russia to send deported Ukrainians directly to the border of Ukraine with Russia or Belarus.
