Sakkari – Kostyuk – 1:2 (6:4, 6:7, 4:6)
The Ukrainian tennis player started the game more confidently. With two breaks, she unexpectedly created an early lead (3:0). However, Kostyuk couldn't maintain her momentum. Moreover, Sakkari won five consecutive games. The Greek player then closed out the set on her opponent's serve.
The second set followed a similar scenario. The Ukrainian started well, but Sakkari did not allow her to pull ahead. Both players broke each other's serves three times. Eventually, the set went to a tiebreak, where the Ukrainian player prevailed (7:5).
The decisive set was marked by ups and downs. Kostyuk would pull ahead, only to allow Sakkari to catch up. At 5:3 in her favor, the Ukrainian unexpectedly lost on her serve. However, she pulled herself up and won the set and the match with a break.
In the next round, Kostyuk will face Croatian Donna Vekić, who sensationally defeated American tennis player Cori Gauff. The first-ranked Ukrainian remains the last representative of her country in the singles competition.
By the way, earlier Svitolina lost to Czech player Krejčíková in the third round of the Olympics.
