The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces operators together with the servicemen of the 140th separate reconnaissance battalion of the Marines and the Security Service of Ukraine destroyed a Russian TOS-1A Solntsepek on the left bank of the Kherson region, according to the press service of the Special Operations Forces (SOF).

"While conducting reconnaissance in the Kherson direction, the Special Operations Forces operators discovered a Russian TOS-1A Solntsepek. Using a flamethrower system, the enemy repeatedly attacked the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Krynky area, on the left bank of the Kherson region," the press service writes.

After the fire damage was inflicted, the Solntsepek was successfully destroyed.

How the Solntsepek works

The heavy flamethrower system is used to destroy light armored vehicles and enemy manpower in open terrain. It is also used to destroy, for example, fortifications due to a powerful volumetric explosion.

The system's thermobaric munition forms an explosive mixture and then detonates it. During the detonation, the atmospheric pressure in the cloud jumps up and drops just as rapidly. Even if you survive the explosion itself, there is a risk of dying from ruptured internal organs due to the sudden pressure drop.

Russia's losses in the war against Ukraine

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, over the past day, December 17, Ukrainian soldiers eliminated another 1,090 occupants. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost 347,160 troops.

In particular, in the Tavria direction, Ukrainian defenders killed 491 Russian war criminals. Six more were taken prisoner.
