Tavria front update: near 500 Russians eliminated with captives taken

Over the past day, December 17, Ukrainian defenders killed another 491 Russian terrorists in the Tavria direction. Some were also taken prisoner, according to the joint press center of the Tavria Defense Forces.
During the day, the enemy:
- carried out 11 air strikes;
- conducted 38 combat engagements;
- made 691 artillery attacks.
Avdiivka direction
The enemy keeps trying to encircle Avdiivka. 16 enemy attacks were repelled east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, and Avdiivka, and 11 more south of Tonenke, Nevelske, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region.
Maryinka direction
The Ukrainian defense forces are holding back the enemy in Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region, where they repelled 4 attacks.
Shakhtarsk direction
The Russians did not conduct any assault operations.
Zaporizhzhia direction
The Ukrainian defense forces repelled 4 enemy attacks west of Verbove and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Achievements of the Ukrainian military
"In the Melitopol direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, depleting the enemy along the entire front line," the press service writes.
Enemy losses amounted to 491 Russians, and 6 surrendered. The Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 60 units of enemy military equipment, namely:
- 10 tanks;
- 19 armored personnel carriers;
- 8 artillery systems;
- 1 MLRS;
- 1 UAV;
- 20 vehicles;
- 1 unit of special equipment.
"Another 50 units of enemy equipment were damaged," the press service adds.
Russia's losses in the war against Ukraine
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of December 17, Ukrainian soldiers eliminated another 1,090 Russians. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost 347,160 soldiers.
