The sea drone that exploded today in Romania's Constanța port was Ukrainian. However, it ended up there as a result of Russia's actions, according to the press service of the Ukrainian Navy.

"While carrying out missions in the Black Sea operational zone, one of the Ukrainian Navy's unmanned surface vessels lost control due to the enemy's electronic warfare systems and ended up near the coast of Romania," the statement said.

The Ukrainian Navy noted that it provided all necessary information to the Romanian Navy to prevent civilian casualties.

Statement by Ukraine's Foreign Ministry

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi confirmed that the Navy had promptly informed the Romanian side about the naval drone, which lost control due to Russian jamming.

According to him, the relevant authorities of both countries have since remained in close contact, brought the situation under control, and ensured security in the area.

Such effective coordination made it possible to take the necessary measures to prevent harm to civilians.

"This incident shows once again that Russia's ongoing full-scale aggression poses a threat not only to Ukraine, but to the entire region. Effective coordination is key to mitigating its consequences to neighbouring countries," Tykhyi said.

Explosion in a Romanian port

On the morning of June 5, a sea drone exploded in Romania's Constanța port.

No one was injured in the explosion, but authorities activated the Red Intervention Plan, a special response protocol for high-risk emergencies.

The country's Ministry of Defense said that the drone allegedly resembled one used in the war in Ukraine. It was identified as a Magura V5.

Military officials also noted that the explosion was not controlled. It remains unclear how the sea drone ended up in the port.

Media outlets also reported that four additional boats carrying explosives were discovered in the coastal area of Constanța port.
