Ukrainian President to visit Berlin on May 28

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will pay a visit to Berlin on Wednesday, May 28. There, he will meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Spiegel reports.
According to the agency, Merz wants to discuss with Zelenskyy possible steps for further technical negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. He will also inform about the new package of EU sanctions against the Russians, which aims to increase pressure on Moscow to start serious negotiations.
Further military assistance to Ukraine is also likely to be discussed.
According to Spiegel, despite Merz's reluctance to speak publicly about new aid to Kyiv, behind the scenes, discussions are underway on how Germany can support the Ukrainian defense industry in the production of long-range weapons.
Germany to classify arms supplies to Ukraine
German media recently reported that the German government has decided to classify arms sales to Ukraine. It is noteworthy that before that, during the office of former Chancellor Olaf Scholz, all data on aid to Ukraine were open and posted on the Internet.
Later, Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed that Germany would continue to provide military support to Ukraine, but future decisions would not be subject to public discussion.
Germany will also no longer comment on plans to supply Taurus to Ukraine.
