At a press conference in Kyiv, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the country will continue its military aid for Ukraine. However, future decisions will not be open to public discussion.

At the press conference, German journalists reminded Merz that when he was in the opposition, he repeatedly called for sending Taurus missiles to Ukraine. They asked whether his position had changed now.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz replied to the journalists that the measures they are taking together to end the war and the joint decisions being made to protect against a possible renewed war in Ukraine are not subjects for public discussion. Instead, they are part of intensive consultations in such a format with the US.

Supply of Taurus missiles to Ukraine

German media reported recently that the new German government allegedly decided to classify arms supplies to Ukraine. Under former Chancellor Olaf Scholz, all information about aid to Ukraine was public and posted online.

Notably, Merz had previously stated that he was ready to approve the supply of long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's Ambassador to Brazil, Andrii Melnyk, who previously worked in Berlin, noted that the supply of Taurus missiles would be Merz's first major test. This decision will determine Germany's leadership in the free world.
