The supply of Taurus missiles will be the first test for Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Germany’s leadership in the free world depends on this decision, Ukraine's Ambassador to Brazil, Andrii Melnyk, says in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

The issue of supplying Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles will become the first challenge for the new coalition in Germany.

In particular, Melnyk recalled that it was exactly two years ago when he first publicly called on Berlin to deliver these missiles to Kyiv. However, until now, the German government - particularly the Social Democrats - has postponed this decision, fearing escalation from Russia.

"So, it is the Social Democrats who are sabotaging this decision," Ukraine's Ambassador to Brazil stated.

According to Melnyk, during Chancellor Scholz's tenure, they created an atmosphere of fear surrounding the transfer of Taurus missiles, which has led to a majority of Germans currently opposing it.

"If this happens, we can forget about all hopes that Merz is capable of becoming the leader of Europe and the entire free Western world. It will be a real failure," Ukraine's Ambassador to Brazil concluded.

At the same time, the leader of the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) Friedrich Merz, who won the elections, openly supported the provision of long-range weapons to Ukraine during his campaign.

Transfer of Taurus to Ukraine

Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that he is ready to approve the transfer of long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.

Moreover, Merz not only expressed readiness to deliver the aforementioned missiles but also suggested that Ukraine could use them to strike the Crimean Bridge.
