Ukrainian PM meets US Treasury to discuss investments and Russia sanctions

The United States has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Ukraine, emphasizing its readiness, together with international partners, to intensify pressure on Russia while advancing the work of the Recovery Investment Fund for strategic reconstruction projects, according to a publication by the US Department of the Treasury.
In Washington, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko to discuss strengthening their partnership and securing lasting peace. He emphasized the importance of regular dialogue between the nations and thanked her for support of the Reconstruction Investment Fund, which is already building its first pipeline of projects.
The fund will prioritize sectors such as critical minerals, energy, and infrastructure, enabling bold US-Ukraine joint projects aimed at modernizing key parts of the economy.
Bessent confirmed the US is ready, alongside G7 partners, to escalate pressure on Russia and on countries fueling Moscow’s military through oil purchases. They also discussed a joint strategy to bolster Europe’s energy security and reduce Russia’s sway over global markets.
Sanctions coordination remains a key component of the cooperation. Ukraine and the US are working to align efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s defense, increase financial support, and improve the effectiveness of international measures to curtail Russia.
Prime Minister Svyrydenko posted that the US Backing is foundational for Ukraine’s recovery and for attracting private investment. She said Ukraine is actively building a portfolio of projects, especially in energy, critical minerals, infrastructure, and processing, that could be funded via the Reconstruction Investment Fund.
US President Donald Trump has called on Hamas to lay down arms and accept peace terms, emphasizing that the return of hostages and bodies of the fallen must occur, and warning that forced measures may follow if Hamas refuses cooperation.
A NATO official also recently said intelligence-sharing among alliance members has reached "unprecedented" speed, volume, and effectiveness. The US remains a leading source of information within the bloc, and its agencies are sharing data more intensively than ever before.
