A Ukrainian An-12 cargo aircraft was detained in Trinidad and Tobago after explosives were found on board. The aircraft was en route to Libya, and local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, according to ArabNews.

The incident took place at Piarco International Airport. During an inspection of the Ukrainian cargo aircraft, law enforcement officers and customs officials discovered explosive materials on board that, according to preliminary data, were not properly declared in the cargo documentation.

The flight, CVK-7078, was operating a route to Libya. After the dangerous cargo was discovered, the aircraft was temporarily detained for further inspection.

According to local authorities, an investigation is currently underway into the origin of the explosives, the legality of their transport, and possible violations of international rules for transporting dangerous goods.

At the same time, there is currently no official information about the detention of crew members. It is also not reported whether any charges have been filed in connection with the incident.

Local media report that law enforcement agencies and aviation safety officials are involved in the inspection. The authorities of Trinidad and Tobago have not yet disclosed details about the type, quantity, or possible purpose of the explosives.

The report notes that the aircraft belongs to a Ukrainian cargo airline operator. However, information about the final recipient of the cargo in Libya has not been officially disclosed.

As is known, Libya remains one of the region's unstable countries after years of internal conflict, and issues related to the supply of weapons and explosive materials are under heightened international scrutiny. Because of this, any incidents involving the transport of dangerous goods to the country draw significant attention.
