Ukrainian paratroopers report how they captured North Korean soldier
Soldiers of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told the details of how they captured a North Korean soldier in the Kursk region. The North Korean soldier was wounded and tried to commit suicide, according to the Command of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“It is no secret that North Korean soldiers do not surrender, they are ready to commit suicide just to avoid being captured by Ukrainian soldiers. However, Polissia paratroopers managed to capture such a militant,” the statement says.
According to the soldiers of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during one of the battles in the Kursk region, North Korean soldiers took part in assault operations. However, Ukrainian defenders used drones to stop the offensive.
At a certain location, an enemy soldier who was wounded, wearing Russian military equipment but a different size bulletproof vest, was later discovered. He was waving to the soldiers of the 95th Airmobile Brigade, most likely thinking that they were Russian soldiers.
The North Korean soldier was given sausage, and when they were leading him to an armored vehicle for further transportation, he threw himself against a pillar with all his might, trying to kill himself. But he survived. Already in captivity, the North Korean was allowed to watch cartoons and then handed over to the Security Service of Ukraine for interrogation.
The Polissia paratroopers noted that North Korean soldiers were taking the Kursk direction in large numbers. They were most likely ordered not to surrender to try to hide evidence of their participation in the war.
The soldiers of the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine added that despite the usual practice of the Russian occupiers to leave their soldiers on the battlefield (both wounded and dead bodies), the North Korean military is trying to take their compatriots.
Capture of North Korean military personnel
On January 11, it became known that Ukrainian defenders had captured two North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region. The North Korean soldiers, among other things, reported significant losses among their contingent.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy published a video of the interrogation of the prisoner. Then the North Korean soldier said that after being wounded, he was on the battlefield for almost a week, where he was later rescued by the Ukrainian military.
Zelenskyy also offered North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to take the captured North Korean soldiers but with a certain condition.
Recently, a captured North Korean soldier said that the North Korean soldiers were taken to the territory of Russia by ferry and then by train. They were in complete information isolation.
