Ukrainian paratroopers release first hours footage of Kursk operation
Ukrainian paratroopers showed footage of the first hours after the offensive's start in Russia's Kursk region. The operation was launched on 6 August, according to the Command of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"The first hours of the Ukrainian Defense Forces offensive in the Kursk region of Russia on 6 August 2024. A day that will go down in the history of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Careful preparation, planning, surprise, morale, and information silence were decisive at the initial stage of the operation," the paratroopers say.
The command of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that in the first hours of the operation, the Ukrainian military carried out demining, breaking through the border, and destroying Russia's defenses. Ukrainian aviation and artillery were also involved. In addition, the first Russian soldiers were captured in the first hours.
"Now everything depends on the resilience of the Ukrainian soldiers of all branches of the armed forces involved in the operation," the Ukrainian military adds.
Operation in Kursk region
On 6 August, the Russians announced a border breakthrough in the Kursk region. The Russian Ministry of Defense initially tried to reduce the scale of hostilities in the border areas. Still, the so-called Russian military commanders complained about the advance of Ukrainian forces.
Ukraine remained silent for almost a week. Ukrainian Armed Forces Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi confirmed the operation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kursk region. According to recent reports, Ukraine controls 82 settlements in the Kursk region.
Also, the first military commandant's office was established in the Kursk region. Major General Eduard Moskaliov heads it.
Yesterday, RBC-Ukraine's sources reported that the Security Service of Ukraine soldiers in the Kursk region captured 102 Russian soldiers at once. This is the most massive capture of the Russian troops that has ever been carried out at one time.
According to the sources, among the prisoners are also soldiers of Kadyrov's Akhmat unit.
