Ukrainian MP: Ceasefire in Ukraine will not mean cancellation of martial law

Ceasefire agreements in Ukraine will not mean the cancellation of martial law. This will only be possible when the threats outlined in the law on the legal regime of martial law disappear, according to a statement by a Member of Parliament from the ruling Servant of the People faction, Fedir Venislavskyi, on the air of Radio Svoboda.
According to him, the mere fact of a temporary ceasefire does not eliminate the threats that led to the introduction of the legal regime of martial law.
"This does not mean that Russia has withdrawn its troops from the temporarily occupied territories or its means of attack, which can strike Ukraine. Given Putin’s mental state, I think we can expect any possible developments. Therefore, without guarantees that this will lead to a lasting peace, I do not think martial law can be lifted," Venislavskyi stated.
According to him, the timing of a possible cancellation of martial law depends on a number of factors, including the withdrawal of Russian troops, security guarantees, and the results of international negotiations.
"However, I cannot predict the timing at all right now. It depends on a whole range of circumstances: on negotiations, and on the terms agreed upon by the parties. I mean Ukraine and Russia, with the participation of Europe and the United States, because, as the president stated today, the Ukrainian government will not recognize any agreements without their involvement," he said.
Ceasefire
According to the Financial Times, Trump and Putin aim to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine by Easter or May 9. However, no official statements have been made regarding these deadlines.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that there is currently no peace plan, as nothing has been agreed upon between Ukraine, the US, and European partners.
