MFA of Ukraine selects 16 candidates for ambassador positions in Africa and Asia
Today, August 16, Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba has finished all interviews with 16 candidates for ambassadorial positions in African and Asian countries.
"Today, I have completed interviews with 16 candidates for ambassadorial positions, who have gone through the first-ever open selection process for ambassadors. The selection process began in March of this year," the statement reads.
Number of applicants
According to Kuleba, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received and processed a significant number of applications, totaling 1,104. The majority of applicants came from business circles, as well as researchers, professors, veterans, military personnel, current and former diplomats, lawyers, and human rights activists.
The minister clarified that the open selection process involves a thorough evaluation of each candidacy, making the path from accepting applications to candidate selection quite lengthy.
"That's why, out of over a thousand applications, we have chosen 16. But these are indeed qualified, motivated, and very strong candidates. I will inform the President about the results of the open selection process," Kuleba wrote.
Assignments for Ukraine's new ambassadors
The minister says that the diplomatic service needs to be strengthened and expanded, particularly in Africa and Asia.
He adds that Ukraine requires more specialized candidates who understand how to attract investments and promote exports.
Open competition for ambassadorial positions
In March of this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs introduced an open mechanism that allows individuals to propose themselves for ambassadorial positions.
According to the minister, there is currently a shortage of qualified personnel in the country. This touches both private entrepreneurs and government institutions. Kuleba mentioned that the search for candidates for ambassadorial positions was particularly challenging.
According to him, there is a specific focus on African nations, as Ukraine's diplomatic expansion is rapidly growing.
