Erdoğan proposes Istanbul meeting with Putin and Trump to discuss Ukraine

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan plans to call US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin this week. He intends to propose holding a meeting on Ukraine in Istanbul, Hurriyet reports.
The Turkish leader recalled that this week, negotiations between Ukrainian and Russian delegations took place at the Çırağan Palace. Erdoğan also noted that the Ukrainian delegation met with him in Ankara before talks with the Russians.
According to the Turkish President, he also had a phone conversation with Putin, during which he asked the Kremlin head for "support."
"Going forward, possibly even this week, we will again hold talks with Mr. Putin and Mr. Trump to try to bring these leaders together in Istanbul," Erdoğan clarified.
Peace talks
The third round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia took place on Wednesday, July 23.
Following the talks, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov stated that Ukraine had proposed holding a meeting between leaders by the end of August.
The proposal also includes the participation of US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in addition to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Commenting on the proposal, Head of the Russian delegation and Kremlin Aide Vladimir Medinsky said that a leaders' meeting would require thorough preparation.
However, Medinsky did not give a concrete response to Ukraine's proposal.
